Broadway Songs

Oh so MANY amazing Broadway Musicals have transported us from our own world for a few hours to a story of love, tragedy, or redemption through unforgettable Broadway songs. So it is no wonder that many of these Broadway songs have stood the test of time, memorable even outside of the context of the musical itself. George and Ira Gershwin were the most prolific for so long, and still bring the masses to see their masterpieces. Whether it is Porgy and Bess or West Side Story, they still have relevance today. And who can forget Jerry Bock’s Fiddler on the Roof?

Then Andrew Lloyd Webber hit the scene and there seemed to be no end to his creativity, bringing us the Phantom of the Opera and Cats, with the never-to-be-forgotten song, Memory. In Les Miserables, inspired by the writing of Victor Hugo, Claude-Michel Schonberg struck the hearts of thousands with his songs including, I Dreamed a Dream.

Of course Disney has grabbed the spotlight with Lion King, with its Can You Feel the Love Tonight? as well as Beauty and the Beast becoming standard Broadway musical fare. The Jersey Boys have become an international phenomenon, bringing back the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and Hamilton educates us as well as entertains us with some American history.

So it is no wonder that whether it is a corporate event, social party, or wedding that any number of these songs are requested by The Elegant Harp Jazz Band, String Trio, or on solo harp for their South Florida special event.
